2008
The
2008 Festival was a remarkable success, with the very special atmosphere
of a first festival with new ideas. The audience came from Wales,
England and beyond, and enjoyed performers from Wales, England and beyond.
We enjoyed it, the performers enjoyed it and so did the hundreds of happy
customers. Here's a note from one of them:
... I attended the new Tegeingl Folk Festival
in Mold this past weekend. I was so impressed!
The organizers seem to have found the recipe for a festival which appeals to
both the folkie audience and also to the very
local
community. It had an extremely Welsh flavour throughout; there was a
good
mix on the performance stages (7, in a space half the size of a rugby
field)
of Welsh bands and those 'from away' but also workshops in Welsh for
Beginners, lectures on Welsh trad music history, workshops in a number
of
instruments, etc. From googling online for comments made since the
festival, its Welshness was certainly a hit with visitors. Also, I saw
people on the field key figures of the Eisteddfod circles who I
would
never expect to see at a folk festival, so the mix was tremendous....I strongly believe that the authenticity of
'product'
designed for and by a geographic community can have an undeniable appeal
to
visitors. If you ever need proof of this, go to the Tegeingl
organizers. I
am in awe of them!
